Muovi-Heljanko & environmental responsibility

Muovi-Heljanko continuously develops and improves those areas of operation that fall under environmental responsibility. We aim to minimise the effects on the environment in our production processes and products. Environmental values are an imperative and can be seen both in our daily work and in our strategic guidelines.

Production processes

Muovi-Heljanko takes the environment into account in every step of its production process. Both in product design and production, the impacts on the environment are minimised. Through product development, we have reduced the amount of plastic used in packaging and introduced recycled plastic collected from Finnish households. We aim to develop products where intended use and recyclability make them more environmentally friendly also after they have left the Muovi-Heljanko factory.

We have significantly decreased the use of electricity in our production processes, among other things by recovering waste heat from production to heat our facilities, and by utilising so called free cooling during cold periods to chill the mould water. The electricity we use is 100 percent CO2 free.

Excess raw material is meticulously collected to be further used in other processes.

Environmental responsibility of plastic products

Multilayer canister Plastics as packaging material are superior also from an environmental perspective. Many of the qualities of plastic, like lightness, durability and formability, make e.g. logistics more effective and increase the preservability of products packed in plastics.

We pay great attention to the raw materials we use and their recyclability. Indeed, all plastics used by Muovi-Heljanko can be recycled and re-used. Our range already includes a number of plastic bottles made entirely from recycled plastic (rPET). In addition to conventional canisters, there is also a choice of canisters made partly from recycled plastic (rHDPE). Constant development is carried out to make plastics more environmentally safe and product development ensures that the best features go into our products so that they can best serve their intended purpose.

Our latest innovation is the multilayer CoEx6 canister, made from 35% recycled plastic. The carbon footprint of a 5-litre canister is 66% lower compared to the most common 5-litre small machine canisters made in the Nordic countries.

We want to extend our environmental responsibility from our own operations to the products of our clients and end-users. We manufacture high quality plastic packaging that prolongs the life of their content, is easy to re-use and can finally be recycled.
